Rosie’s Ribbons | The Good, The Bad, and The Very Ugly in the Craft World » Perfect Loops
post Category: Free Tutorials, The Good post postJuly 21, 2008

Here is a design I made up a while back and I am now sharing it with all of you.

You will need the following:

An empty wipes container or a sturdy shoe box
5 BBQ skewers or very thin dowels
glue of choice
ruler and a marker

Most the bows I make are about 4 inch x 3 inch, so I will use that as the guide.
Please substitute your own measurements.

Turn box flatside up. Draw a rectangle the height and width of our bow measurements.
In each corner, poke a tiny hole and place the scewers or the dowel.
Add a dab of glue.
Find the center by making an X from corner to corner.
Poke hole and put in skewer or dowel.
Do NOT glue the center hole as you will want to be able to remove center piece.

Now you have a template for making even looped bows.
After you have your bow in place, you removed the center piece and use a “sally clip” to hold while you tie off.

Here are my really pathetic drawings. Click on the thumbnail for a full size picture.

I am sure it will be clear as mud. :)

Wow, Mary,
You’re so kind to share this kind of thing with us! I knew the basic idea of how one should look, buyt wouldn’t have thought of how to mark the center or actuayy make one. Hmmmmm I see a weekend project soon….
Thanks again, you are so sweet to share!

Thank you for sharing this! It’s great information to know. I just started my first group buy and instead of posting prices, I give the company URL to the ladies so that they can see the actual price on the website. I know that I want people to know exactly what they are paying for and I don’t want people to think that I have actually made a profit off them :).

You should get “paid” for your time/efforts. I for one would gladly pay a fee to someone such as yourself who is so upfront on the actual costs. :)

Mary,
Thanks for such a great blog. I tried the wipes box today. I may be dense, but I can’t make this work. I got the boutique bow to work from the instructions (go figure), but the other two don’t work out. I’m using a ribbon with dots, and struggling to make it work. The dots end up inside out! do you have any finished pics of bows you made with it that you’d be willing to share? TIA

Are you laying the ribbon flat and not on it’s side?
Let me know.
I will try to take some pictures tomorrow. (Friday/Aug 1)

Thanks for responding. I put the ribbon parallel to the dowels. When I take it around the curves, it ends up with the printed side down on one or more loops. Does that make sense? I’ve been playing with it a bit and I still haven’t mastered it. Thanks again for a great blog!
